09.20.2024 Microsoft wants to revive defunct nuclear power plant
The tech giant has a new aim to revive the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant, aiming to use its full 837 megawatts of power to train and support its AI models. The power unit was shut down in 2019 due to economic reasons. The complex will be renamed the “Crane Clean Energy Center” in honor of the late Chris Crane, former CEO of Exelon. The revival needs approval from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, followed by approvals from local authorities. If everything goes according to plan, the power plant will be back online in 2028.
