October witnessed two Nobel prizes awarded to AI-affiliated researchers, with the Chemistry Nobel prize awarded to Deepmind and Physics to Geoffrey Hinton and John Hopfield, Machine Learning pioneers.
Apart from this, the month has shown how LLM can now operate mouse pointers in browsers, so they can take over an increasing number of tasks. Also, Universal Music aims to build an ethical Large Music Model.
1 Oct 2024 – Deepmind uses reinforcement learning for LLM self-correcting
In a new paper on Self-Correction via Reinforcement Learning (SCoRe), Deepmind demonstrates a novel approach where the LLM is capable of self-correction using only self-generated data. The approach is different to previous approaches, where prompt engineering was required to push the LLM to self-correct.
